Esther Alma (Zimmerman) Neuman
Esther Alma (Zimmerman) Neuman, 97, of Baraboo, passed away on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at St. Clare Meadows Care Center. Esther was born on June 20, 1916 in Abelman (Rock Springs), the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Neitzel) Zimmerman. She was Baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Springs. On June 2, 1932 she was united in marriage to Harold F. Neuman at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baraboo. From this union they raised seven children. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1992. After they married, they moved to Greenfield Township and resided on Neuman road. Esther worked as a seamstress in the sewing department at Glenville Hammock Factory, and later, at Almet. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and crochet work. In her later years, she would crochet afghans which she would lovingly give to family members and dear friends. Survivors include five children, Duane (Jan) Neuman, Carol (Russell) Greenwood, Donna (Frank) Klemm, Arlan (Celeste) Neuman, Michael (Terri) Neuman; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two daughter-in-laws, June and Mary Neuman; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Zimmerman; a step-sister, Joan Chaplin; and other nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by two sons, Roger and James; three grandchildren, Becky Hunt, Andrew Klemm and Matthew Neuman; one great grandchild, James Hunt; and a step brother-in-law, Joseph Chaplin. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 106 S. Maple St., North Freedom, with Pastor Andrew Meyer officiating. Visitation will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Rago-Baldwin Funeral Home, 520 East St., Baraboo, and on Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in Oak Hill Cemetery in North Freedom. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Freedom.
